About Tegemeza Plus

Tegemeza Plus is a five-year HIV prevention, care and treatment program funded by the US President’s Emergency Program for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Tegemeza Plus is a follow-on project to Tegemeza that closed at the end of March 2017.

Tegemeza plus is implemented in Nyeri, Nyandarua and Murang’a counties located in the central part of Kenya with a combined population of approximately 3,007,519 and a HIV prevalence of 5.1%, 2.2% and 3.0%, respectively for adults aged 15 – 64 years.

Through this project, CHS is contributing to the ambitious 95-95-95 targets to help end the HIV/AIDS epidemic

Our Response

Working in collaboration with County Departments of Health, Tegemeza Plus seeks to achieve HIV epidemic control by supporting the implementation and expansion of high quality, sustainable and comprehensive HIV prevention, care and treatment programs across CHS supported health facilities in the Central Region (Murang’a, Nyeri and Nyandarua County). Some of the services offered include;

  • HIV Testing and counselling services
  • Integration of HIV and TB care and treatment services through a standard package of care
  • Prevention and elimination of mother to child HIV transmission
  • Building sustainable systems for provision of comprehensive HIV services
  • Health care worker capacity building through mentorship, didactic training, continuous professional development (CPD/CME) and on-job training
  • Laboratory monitoring and pharmacy commodity management for the supply of Antiretroviral drugs
  • Lab sample transport networking
  • Information systems management and monitoring and evaluation support
  • Positive health, dignity and prevention services for people living with HIV
  • Defaulter tracing and prevention through adherence support
  • County and regional technical working groups to streamline and standardise quality care through evidence-informed approaches
  • Health systems strengthening support through staff supervision and procurement of equipment/supplies
  • Targetted interventions for the Key Populations
