CHS on September 24, 2015, handed over furniture and medical equipment to Ruiru Sub-District Hospital (SDH), with funding from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) through its Tegemeza Program.
The furniture and equipment which consisted of 12 waiting bay benches, 2 lockable office desks, 2 examination couches, 6 office chairs, 4 notice boards, 2 digital thermometers and a diagnostic set will play a significant role in equipping the Comprehensive Care Centre (CCC) at the hospital to enhance quality service delivery.
The CCC was recently repaired and given a face-lift by CHS, creating three (3) additional rooms for HIV testing, counselling and TB care. In addition, a spacious waiting area was created and this has been instrumental in reducing congestion and thus promoting infection control. The furniture and equipment are therefore expected to significantly complement the structural changes at the CCC.
Speaking on behalf of Ruiru Sub-District Hospital In-charge, Dr Jesse Ngugi, during the handover, the Administrator at the hospital Mukabi Kimunya thanked CHS for the equipment, stating that it would be useful in enhancing service provision at the hospital. “We have been lacking most of the materials presented and this is what we have been hoping for”, Mukabi said of the newly delivered equipment. He noted that the benches will particularly ease client discomfort from the previously used plastic seats and are expected to last longer due to their high quality.
