On August 18, 2016, Her Excellency the First Lady of the Republic of Kenya, Mrs Margaret Kenyatta officially handed over the 46th fully kitted Beyond Zero mobile clinic to Murang’a County in Central Kenya. CHS participated at the handover event as one of the implementing partners working to support maternal and child health activities in Murang’a County.
The Beyond Zero Campaign is part of the initiatives outlined in the First Lady’s strategic framework for HIV control and the promotion of maternal, new born and child health in Kenya. Her commitment to this cause has raised her profile in the local and international platforms as a champion for maternal and child health.
In line with the Beyond Zero campaign, CHS supports 33 health facilities in Murang’a County to contribute towards reduced illness and death associated with pregnancy and child birth by scaling up Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV (PMTCT) services, supporting human resources for service delivery across various health facilities, training of health care workers, strengthening community linkages and psychosocial support aimed at eliminating mother-to-child transmission of HIV.
192 babies born of HIV-positive mothers in Murang’a were discharged from PMTCT programs in CHS-supported facilities, between January and June 2016 as HIV negative.
